Learn to Curl

Ever watched curling on television and thought it looked like fun? Our Learn to Curl program is the perfect way to find out for yourself. In a single session you go from spectator to player: you will learn the fundamentals from certified instructors and actually throw stones down the ice. No experience is needed, and Learn to Curl is the same path most of our members took before joining a league the next season.

What you will learn

A Learn to Curl session covers everything a beginner needs to play a game. Certified instructors walk you through it step by step, then put you on the ice to try it for yourself.

  • The delivery: how to slide out of the hack and release a stone with control
  • Sweeping: how and when to sweep to guide the stone down the sheet
  • Scoring and the basic rules of the game
  • Simple strategy and how a team of four works together
  • Moving safely and confidently on the ice

What to wear and bring

Plan for comfort and warmth, since you will be on an indoor ice surface for a couple of hours.

  • Dress warm. The rink is cold, and you can always shed a layer if you heat up while sweeping.
  • Wear pants you can lunge in. We do not suggest jeans - stretchy athletic wear is much better.
  • Bring clean sneakers with good grip. Avoid shoes worn outside in grit or salt, which damage the ice.
  • Gloves are a good idea, and a helmet is a reasonable option if it would help you feel steadier.

What to expect on the day

Come early and watch our curling league in action before your session - it is a great way to see how the game flows before you step on the ice yourself. Sessions are relaxed and friendly, the pace is built for beginners, and there is no pressure to be good right away. Most people are surprised by how quickly they get the hang of sliding a stone toward the house.

From your first stone to league play

Learn to Curl is also the doorway into the club. Many members started with one introductory session, had a great time, and signed up for a league the following season. If you enjoy your first time on the ice, we will gladly help you take the next step.

How to sign up

Learn to Curl sessions run on a schedule that changes through the year, and spots can fill up. To find out when the next session is offered and how to register, please get in touch and we will send you the current details.
